Allergic Reaction Rash

Other Allergies

There are several types of allergic reaction rash. They are mostly very itchy in nature. However, not all rashes that itch have an allergy as the reason behind them. The allergic reaction skin rash is often accompanied by swelling and inflammation of the affected area.

An Overview

Allergies are very common. Allergy is a misguided reaction of the immune system of one’s body to certain substances, which are otherwise harmless. Such substances that trigger the immune reaction are known as an allergen. A few examples of allergens are pollens, molds, dander, dust mites, etc. Most of the allergic reactions are not very serious. They mostly cause the formation of a rash or continuous sneezing. However, the type of allergic reaction differs from one affected person to another. In some cases, the reaction can be fatal to life. Such an allergic reaction is called anaphylaxis.

Some Types of Allergic Reaction Rash

The main types of allergic reaction rashes include eczema, hives, and contact dermatitis. Eczema is also known as atopic dermatitis. It causes intense itching, inflammation, and excoriation. In the case of chronic eczema, thickening of the skin with accentuation of skin lines may occur. This particular disorder mainly affects young children. The commonplaces of occurrence of allergic reaction rash in children as well as in adults are the areas that are more prone to rubbing, scratching, and friction with clothes. For example, elbow, knees, cheeks, scalp, etc.

Hives are also termed as urticaria. They are described as itchy areas, a bit raised from the level of the surrounding skin. The allergic skin rash is well circumscribed. They mostly appear in groups but may get blanched on exerting even mild pressure. Contact dermatitis is a skin disorder that occurs when a substance comes in contact with the skin and acts as an irritant or allergen. Some examples of such substances are poison ivy, poison oak, detergents, soaps, etc.
